Sometimes when I think of myself I think of the dreams I dreamt as a young girl.
—the desire to be a teacher
—the need to be a physically fit athlete
—the excitement of being a dependable mother
—the curiosity of being in love with her spouse.
Yet, dreams remain unfulfilled as I look back, and I become remorseful for opportunities lost, mistakes made, and the choking feeling as life tries to tie a noose around my dreams.
Sometimes when I think of myself I think of my future I am creating as an adult.
—the pride for igniting the dreams of children as I teach
—the strength I am regaining with a renewed commitment to myself
—the joy of watching my children grow into beautiful young adults
—the confidence born from encircling myself with loving, caring people
And, I begin to forgive myself for being too eager to mature, for forgetting to make sure I take care of myself, and life no longer holds me hostage to misery.
Sometimes when I think of myself my mind wanders through the the jungle of possibilities.
—conceptualizing myself as a leader in my district
—idealizing a long, productive life
—imagining my children with their own families
—creating new opportunities for shared love.
If, I continue to adapt, and focus on my dreams and goals, grow through challenges and struggles, then life will begin to blossom with newfound prosperity and joy.
